The following was shared Two SABBATHS ago, that is to say, Satuday 25th March 2023 / NISAN/AVIV 4 which was SHABBAT VAYIKRA/AND HE CALLED [Leviticus 1 – 5; Isaiah 43:21 – 44:23; Matthew 5:23-30] by a certain MESSIANIC HEBREW Rabbi. Thought we should share here also because *there is some very useful information to learn here as we get closer to PESACH/PASSOVER (Not Good Friday!!!) and HA BIKKURIM/FIRSTFRUITS (Not Easter!!!).* Please note that we have amended THE LORD’S NAMES in this message.

VAYIKRA ( אָ רְ קִּ יַו And HE Called) Leviticus 1:1-5:26(6:7)
Parasha Insights from the Elders of Kehilat Bet Avinu

*Last week, the double portion of Vayakhel/Pekudei was the final Torah portion in the book of Exodus.*

This Shabbat, we begin studying the Book of Leviticus, called Vayikra after its opening
word.

The Hebrew text of Leviticus begins with the *letter [ו [vav. It’s a conjunction and therefore indicates the continuation of the closing verses from Exodus (40:34-38).* In these verses Moses
and Israel encountered

*‘A’ PROBLEM OF HOLINESS;*

but also

*‘THE’ PROBLEM OF HOLINESS.*

The TABERNACLE had been completed according to all its detailed instructions.

Moses:
➡️put out the
12 loaves of the bread of presence (40:23),

➡️lit the menorah (25),

➡️kindled the incense (27)

and

➡️even provided the first offering (29).

Therefore, Moses finished the work. *Then the cloud covered THE TENT OF MEETING (34) and Moses was not able to enter the TENT OF MEETING because THE CLOUD rested on it, and THE GLORY OF THE LORD YAHUVEH [YAHWEH] filled THE TABERNACLE.* (35)

It seemed THE TABERNACLE was successful as THE PRESENCE OF YAH became resident in it.

The TABERNACLE became the DWELLING PLACE OF YAH; but there was a fundamental issue with the TABERNACLE’S concept. *Even if YAH could dwell among the Israelites in a HOLY PLACE, that didn’t mean they could have any FELLOWSHIP (COMMUNION) or INTERACTION with HIM.* YAH was still HOLY and man was still unholy.

➡️➡️➡️How could the unholy man come near to THE HOLY GOD?⬅️⬅️⬅️
*This IS the problem with HOLINESS. This was the problem Moses faced at the end of the book of Exodus. YAH had taken up residence in the TABERNACLE but HE was unapproachable.* Even Moses
couldn’t enter! Throughout all history this has been the passion and frustration of mankind. We
have a natural desire to be near to YAH. We long to be in HIS PRESENCE and bask in HIS GLORY.

📌We hunger for HIS FELLOWSHIP,
📌craving HIS companionship
and
📌long for HIS approval. More than
anything, our souls desire to be near YAH. *We are like an abandoned child crying for our parents.*
The irony of it all is that even though we so greatly desire HIS FELLOWSHIP, COMPANIONSHIP and
APPROVAL, the very inclination of our heart is opposed to YAH. We are unable to come near to
HIM.

📌HE is LIFE, we are death.

📌HE is PURE, we are polluted.

📌HE is INFINITE, we are finite.

📌HE is HOLY,
we are common.

*It is impossible for us to enter into HIS PRESENCE.* As in the days of Moses, so
too this is our problem. The conclusion of Exodus left us with the question of
📌“How are the
ISRAELITES supposed to approach YAH?
📌How are they to come near to HIM?”

The text of Leviticus begins with YAH calling Moses from within THE TENT OF MEETING. *Prior to this, YAH has always spoken to Moses from atop Mt Sinai.* Now the presence of YAH was from within the TABERNACLE, and from here HIS VOICE sought after Moses. The Hebrew name of the
book of Leviticus is Vayikra אָ רְ קִּ יַו” And HE Called” YAH’s call to Moses was in response to Moses’ inability to access THE TENT. Moses was unable to enter, therefore, YAH called to him from within of TENT the from וַיִּ קְ רָ א אֶ ל־מֹשֶ ה וַיְדַ בֵּ ר יְהוָה him to spoke and Moses to called LORD YAHUVEH [YAHWEH] The, TENT themeeting דֵּ ועֹמ לֶ הֹאֵּ מ יוָלֵּ א) Lev 1:1), to explain how HE could be approached: “Speak to the sons of
to offering an brings you of man any When ‘דַ בֵּ ר אֶ ל־בְ נֵּי יִּשְ רָ אֵּ ל וְאָ מַ רְ תָ אֲלֵּ הֶ ם them to say and Israel
or herd the from animals of offering your bring shall you אָ דָ ם כִּ י־יַקְ רִּ יב מִּ כֶם קָ רְ בָ ן לַ יהוָה LORD the
“מִּ ן־הַ בְ הֵּ מָ ה מִּ ן־הַ בָ קָ ר ּומִּ ן־הַ צֹאן תַ קְ רִּ יבּו אֶ ת־קָ רְ בַ נְ כֶ ם flock the

*The word ‘OFFERING ” is from the Hebrew word KORBAN ןָ בְ רָ ק which is translated into English as either sacrifice or offering.* Neither accurately expresses the concept as sacrifice implies the
person bringing it is required to deprive themselves of something in order to satisfy someone
else’s need and offering implies a form of GRATUITY or TRIBUTE. But YAH has no satisfaction in
inflicting deprivation among any of HIS children and HE is not in need of tribute or gifts. *A KORBAN is not merely a sacrifice or an offering.*
The root of the word korban is karav בַ רָ ק which means *‘to draw near’ or to ‘bring near’.* A
KORBAN should be defined as *‘something brought near’ because the person bringing it does so to draw closer to YAH.* The implication is that man himself cannot “come near’ to YAH because HE is
HOLY, separate and distinct from man. *Therefore, man must send a substitute in his place.* The
KORBAN is the vehicle that allows man to come near to YAH.
Understanding a KORBAN is ‘something brought near’ we can paraphrase Lev 1:1-2 as: Then the
LORD YAHUVEH [YAHWEH] called to Moses and spoke to HIM from THE TENT OF MEETING, saying, *“Speak to the sons of ISRAEL and say to them, “When any man wants to draw near with something brought near to the LORD YAHUVEH [YAHWEH] you shall bring near animals from the herd or the flock as your thing brought near.*
Drawing near to YAH is the purpose of THE TABERNACLE service.

➡️➡️➡️*The Hebrew expression “to draw near” to something implies there is no longer any distance between the one drawing near and
the object.* ⬅️⬅️⬅️

Rather, to draw near is to have arrived at a goal. The declaration of the Gospel , “THE
KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS NEAR ” should be understood as “THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS NOW.” It is the
same with the WORSHIP SYSTEM. To ‘draw near to YAH is to enter COMMUNION with HIM. It implies
entering into HIS very PRESENCE.

*In that YAH’s PRESENCE resided in THE TABERNACLE on Earth, the worshipper was able to draw near and enter into that PRESENCE through the offering of a KORBAN, something brought near!*
