THE REASONS GENUINE SAINTS SHOULD NOT CELEBRATE FEBRUARY 14TH, VALENTINE’S DAY.
According to history, the Romans always celebrate two ancient Roman fertility festivals of a lesser known god called “Faunus” on February 13th and the well known god called “Lupercus” on February 15th. In celebrating the well known god – Lupercus on February 15th, priests performs some rituals on the eve of this day i.e February 14th, requiring the sacrifice of goats and dogs, whereby blood of the goats was smeared on the foreheads of two young men and wiped off with wool dipped in milk, young men wearing only goatskin around their loins ran around the base of the palatine hill, striking any woman they met with goatskin strips, this they do to ease labour for pregnant women and to make the others fertile. Some sources claimed that the thongs from the skins of sacrificed animals which the Priest used on the evening of February 14th to whip women were called “februa” from which the month of February derived its name. This Roman fertility festivals is known as PAGAN CEREMONY, they refer to it as “feast of purification”.
Now, coming to St. Valentine; according to history, he was a Roman Catholic Saint who was matyred on Rome feast feast day on February 14th, 3rd century. He was a Priest and a physician – a Patron saint of lovers, epileptics and bee keepers. He suffered martyrdom during the persecution of the christians by the emperor Claudius II Gothicus about 270. It was documented that St. Valentine signed a letter which reads “from your Valentine” to his jailer’s daughter, whom he had befriended and healed of blindness. Other sources states that he defied the emperor’s orders and secretly married couples to spare the husband’s from war.
Considering the above scenerios, the lifestyle of St. Valentine is not worthy of emulation due to his attitude of befriending young ladies and marrying couples to spare their husbands from war. God is against Adultery and fornications. On the other hand, the pagan fertility ceremony of the Romans observed on every February 15th and the rituals towards this performed on the eve of February 14th is forbidden by God, moreso, the festival is associated with immoral sexual activities, drunkenness, gluttony etc.
In essence, celebrating February 14th as Valentine’s day is indirectly celebrating this pagan ceremony, Saints should be wise and careful!
GOD’S STANDARD AGAINST PAGAN FEASTS:
1. DEUTERONOMY 12: 30-31 “TAKE HEED TO THYSELY THAT THOU BE NOT SNARED BY FOLLOWING THEM, AFTER THAT THEY BE DESTROYED FROM BEFORE THEE; AND THAT THOU INQUIRED NOT AFTER THEIR GODS SAYING “HOW DID THIS NATION SERVE THEIR GODS?…..”
2. DEUTERONOMY 18:9-12 “WHEN THOU HAD COME INTO THE LAND WHICH THE LORD THY GOD GIVETH THEE, THOU SHALL NOT LEARN TO DO AFTER THE ABOMINATIONS OF THOSE NATIONS, THERE SHALL NOT BE FOUND AMONG YOU ANY ONE THAT MAKETH HIS SON OR DAUGHTER TO PASS THROUGH THE FIRE, OR THAT USETH DIVINATION….”
3. LEVITICUS 26:30 “AND I WILL DESTROY YOUR HIGH PLACES, AND CUT DOWN YOUR IMAGES, AND CAST YOUR CARCASS UPON THE CARCASSES OF YOUR IDOLS, AND MY SOUL SHALL ABHOR YOU”
The mentality of the so called Valentine’s day celebration of love or love feast on February 14th is a deception of sharing love under the trappings of a pagan festival, it is an abomination and unacceptable way of worship by the Most High God. Celebrating Valentine’s day is simply promoting wrong type of love, it is pure PAGANISM! So many virgin boys and girls are defiled on Valentine’s day, lots of innocent youths are ignorantly initiated into one evil sect or the other, many have lost their original glory/destiny on Valentine’s day, be wise and say NO to this satanic feast. Society may pressurize you, but you need to be wise enough to stand against false tradition that glorifies Satan.
