Should we “COSTUME DRESS UP” on or around the “Feast of Purim/Lots/Esther” time?

SHALOM!

Why do the “Purim” and “Madi Gras” feasts seem to have something in common and yet one is holy whereas the other is unholy respectively?

Dressing up like a king is okay as well in memory of King Achashverosh (a.k.a King Ahasuerus

Remember that your body is supposed to be the Holy Temple of YAH/ELOHIM! What do you dress YAH’S Holy Temple in?

This teaching is inspired by the “Madi Gras/Shrove Tuesday” Teaching.

Interestingly enough, the evil feast of “Madi Gras/Shrove Tuesday” tends to take place around the same time or period of the year as the “Holy Feast of Purim/Lots”.

Are there any connections that we should avoid?

“Madi Gras/Shrove Tuesday” has a lot to do with masking.

However the reason for wearing masks on PURIM is totally different.

Why do we wear masks on Purim?

Well, to commemorate the Esther’s hidden identity in order to protect herself and her people. The identity was revealed the right time which was YAH’S right timing!!!

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 New King James Version (NKJV)

14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you[a] are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”[b]

17 Therefore

“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”[c]
18 “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.”[d]

“Purim” is a Holy Feast Day unto YAH/ELOHIM (a.k.a GOD) Almighty. It is mentioned in the Holy Biblical Scriptures.

Why then make it look so evil by wearing or looking like “Helloween” observers?

  • Why wear clothings with skeleton images?
  • Why dress the animals (that is to say, pets) up?
  • Why carry bloody hands?
  • Why try to look like zombies?
  • Why is it that on Purim, representations of death and hell, the lake of fire or “sheol” are actually used to celebrate something holy unto YAH Almighty?

 These give me great concern.

The “Feast of Purim/Lots/Esther” is about the “giving of life or preservation of the lives of the Jews” so that the fulfilment of YAH’S WORD comes to pass, that is to say the coming of the MASHIACH who is in fact, YAHUSHUA (a.k.a JESUS CHRIST/YESHUA)!!!

Purim is not a celebration of death! It is a time to celebrate deliverance from Haman/the Spirit of Haman.

It is a time of JOY!

Are we to observe Purim like the heathens/pagans (that is to say, people of the world) would?

Drinking until very drunk is forbidden by YAH Almighty!

This is what YAHUVEH ELOHIM told the Children of Israel and we who have accepted YAHUSHUA as the only MASHIACH are Spiritual Children of Israel. We are therefore are obliged to pay attention to the following words which YAHUVEH ELOHIM spoke through HIS Holy Servant and Prophet Moshe/Moses:

Deuteronomy 12:29- Names of God Bible (NOG)

29 Yahweh your Elohim will destroy the nations where you’re going and force them out of your way. You will take possession of their land and live there. 30 After they’ve been destroyed, be careful you aren’t tempted to follow their customs. Don’t even ask about their gods and say, “How did these people worship their gods? We want to do what they did.” 31 Never worship Yahweh your Elohim in the way they worship their gods, because everything they do for their gods is disgusting to Yahweh. He hates it! They even burn their sons and daughters as sacrifices to their gods.[b]

32 Be sure to do everything I command you. Never add anything to it or take anything away from it.

Look at the following Purim images and as a true child of YAHUVEH ELOHIM, ask yourself if you see YAHUSHUA HA MASHIACH doing this on or around Purim time while on earth in the physical form?

What Would YAHUSHUA HA MASHIACH (a.k.a JESUS CHRIST/YESHUA) Do?

(a.k.a WWYD/WWJD)?

What does Batman have to do with Purim?

Batman is a very evil film and I would never recommend it to be watched by children. Bats are not good animals spiritually. Notice that in all the Batman movies, Batman always operated at night just like bats do. The Hebrew word (atalleph’) so rendered ( Leviticus 11:19 ; Deuteronomy 14:18 ) implies “flying in the dark.” The bat is reckoned among the birds in the list of unclean animals. To cast idols to the “moles and to the bats” means to carry them into dark caverns or desolate places to which these animals resort ( Isaiah 2:20 ), i.e., to consign them to desolation or ruin.

Like many animals, bats have learned to adapt to a wide variety of environments and habitats.  The only terrain they don’t inhabit is the Arctic.  There are 39 species of bats in North America, all of which are nocturnal. Some bats are insectivores, others eat things like fruit and pollen.  Bats are associated with many different cultures and mean different things to different people.

The Mayans had a bat god called Camazote, who was said to have tested human souls with a large sword.  This is slightly negative, since the bat is associated with violence.  In Biblical tradition, bats were believed to be messengers of Satan.  The Puritans believed that if a bat flew close to someone, somebody was trying to bewitch them.

In conclusion regarding bats, Bats often represent death in the sense of letting go of the old, and bringing in the new.  They are symbols of transition, of initiation, and the start of a new beginning.

The are the instructions which YAHUVEH THE LORD gave to us (the Specially Chosen People: Children of Israel) through Moshe/Moses:

Deuteronomy 12 Names of God Bible (NOG)

The Proper Place to Worship

12 Here are the laws and rules you must faithfully obey in the land that Yahweh Elohim of your ancestors is giving you as your own. You must obey them as long as you live in the land.

Completely destroy all the worship sites on the high mountains, on the hills, and under every large tree. The people you’re forcing out worship their gods in these places. Tear down their altars, crush their sacred stones, burn their poles dedicated to the goddess Asherah, cut down their idols, and wipe out the names of their gods from those places.

Never worship Yahweh your Elohim in the way they worship their gods. Yahweh your Elohim will choose a place out of all your tribes to live and put his name. Go there and worship him. Bring him your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, one-tenth of your income, your contributions, the offerings you vow to bring, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your cattle, sheep, and goats. There, in the presence of Yahwehyour Elohim, you and your families will eat and enjoy everything you’ve worked for, because Yahweh your Elohim has blessed you.

Never worship in the way that it’s being done here today, where everyone does whatever he considers right. Up until now you haven’t come to your place of rest, the property Yahweh your Elohim is giving you. 10 But you will cross the Jordan River and settle in the land Yahwehyour Elohim is giving you as your own property. He will give you peace from all your enemies around you so that you will live securely. 11 Then Yahweh your Elohim will choose a place where his name will live. You must bring everything I command you to that place. Bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, one-tenth of your income, your contributions, and all the best offerings you vow to bring to Yahweh12 Enjoy yourselves in the presence of Yahweh your Elohim along with your sons, daughters, male and female slaves, and the Levites. (The Levites live in your cities because they have no land of their own as you have.) 13 Be careful that you don’t sacrifice your burnt offerings wherever you want. 14 Instead, sacrifice them only at the place that Yahweh will choose in one of your tribes. There you must do everything I command you.

15 In whatever city you live, you may slaughter and eat as much meat as you want from what Yahweh your Elohim has blessed you with. Clean and unclean[a] people may eat it as if they were eating a gazelle or a deer. 16 But never eat the blood. Pour it on the ground like water. 17 You may not eat the Lord’s offerings in your cities. Those offerings are: one-tenth of your grain, new wine, and olive oil; the firstborn of your cattle, sheep, or goats; the offerings you vow to bring; your freewill offerings; and your contributions. 18 Instead, you, your sons and daughters, male and female slaves, and the Levites who live in your cities must eat these in the presence of Yahweh your Elohim at the place Yahweh your Elohim will choose. There in the presence of Yahweh your Elohimenjoy everything you’ve worked for. 19 Don’t forget to take care of the Levites as long as you live in your land.

20 Yahweh your Elohim will expand your country’s borders as he promised. You will say, “I’m hungry for meat.” Then eat as much meat as you want. 21 If the place Yahweh your Elohim chooses to put his name is too far away from you, you may slaughter an animal from the herds or flocks that Yahweh has given you. Eat as much as you want in your city. I have commanded you to do this. 22 Eat it as you would eat a gazelle or a deer: Clean and unclean people may eat it together. 23 However, be sure you never eat blood, because blood contains life. Never eat the life with the meat. 24 Never eat blood. Pour it on the ground like water. 25 If you don’t eat blood, things will go well for you and your descendants. You will be doing what Yahweh considers right.

26 Take the holy things and the offerings you have vowed to bring, and go to the place Yahweh will choose. 27 Sacrifice the meat and the blood of your burnt offerings on the altar of Yahweh your Elohim. The blood of your sacrifices is to be poured out beside the altar of Yahweh your Elohim, but you may eat the meat. 28 Be sure you obey all these instructions I’m giving you. Then things will always go well for you and your descendants because you will be doing what Yahweh your Elohimconsiders good and right.

Revelation 18:4

The following images show examples of how “Madi Gras/Shrove Tuesday” is celebrated. Sadly, the following also remind me of how the Orthodox Jews dress up for the “Feast of Purim/Lots a.k.a Feast of Esther”. When I learned last year that on Purim, the Orthodox Jews dress up for fun but also as a form of mockery to those who have the spirit and intentions towards them like those of Haman, the villain in the Purim story, I wondered why. I am only just making the connection now while writing about the “evil Madis Gras feast”.

I am not saying that dressing up on Purim is totally evil. I am only concerned about the choices of costumes? My understanding is that Purim is meant to be a day of:

  • being HOLY before YAH
  • fasting or waiting upon YAHUVEH THE LORD,
  • crying out unto YAH asking HIM to protect during the repeat of the PURIM event in the future as well as
  • reading “Megillah Esther (that is to say, the Scroll of Esther)” and
  • feasting including “Hamantashen cookies”
  • Sharing KIDDUSH (a.k.a HOLY COMMUNION)

I must say that dressing up can take the focus away from all the above and most especially fasting and praying but be led by RUACH HA KODESH.

On the other hand, it is good in such a way that it helps to make a point to children who need to be taught about the holy day or holy feast. One very good way to teach children about things ( and even adults too because our memories are frail) is to have visuals).

A very good visual for Purim is dressing up as:

  • King Achashverosh (a.k.a King Ahasuerus),
  • Queen Esther (a.k.a Hadassah),
  • Mordecai,
  • Haman, etc.

One can even get the children to act out the story.

Some people also choose to dress up as:

  • High Priest
  • Moshe/Moses
  • Rabbi

….which I think is so much better than dressing like “goul haunting person”.

So some of the Purim Carnival images are as follows:

Notice that “dragon carriages” are actually included in the carnival. This is not a good thing as there were no physical dragons mentioned in the Holy Purim Story in the Holy Biblical Scriptures.

What do the Scriptures have to say in relation to anything that is unholy or related to Babylon or has associations with Babylon?

Jeremiah 51:44-53 Names of God Bible (NOG)

44 I will punish Bel in Babylon.
I will make Bel spit out everything that it has swallowed.
Nations will no longer stream to Babylon,
            and its walls will fall.

45 “Leave it, my people!
    Run for your lives!
Run from the burning anger of Yahweh.
46 Don’t lose courage or be afraid when rumors are heard in the land.
One rumor comes one year; another rumor comes the next year.
Rumors of violence are in the land.
Rumors that one ruler will fight against another are in the land.
47 That is why the days are coming when I will punish Babylon’s idols.
The whole country will be put to shame,
and all its soldiers will lie dead.
48 Then heaven and earth and everything in them will rejoice over Babylon,
because destroyers from the north will attack it,”
        declares Yahweh.

49 Because the people of Babylon have killed many Israelites
and because they have killed many people throughout the earth,
        Babylon must fall.
50 You people who escaped from the sword, leave!
    Don’t just stand there.
Remember Yahweh in a distant land, and think about Jerusalem.
51 We have been put to shame, and we have been disgraced.
Shame covers our faces, because foreigners have gone
into the holy places of Yahweh’s temple.

52 “That is why the days are coming,” declares Yahweh,
“when I will punish their idols,
and those who are wounded will moan everywhere in the land.
53 The people of Babylon might go up to heaven.
    They might fortify their strongholds.
But destroyers will still come from me against them,”
        declares Yahweh.

Please choose your costumes wisely!
